Why so many Achilles injuries this year in the NBA? 👇 45 Achilles ruptures between 1990 and 2023… Now, 7 this year… So why the uptick? 1. Studies show link to minutes played… or overuse injuries. Demands of NBA schedules. 2. Link to low top sneakers? Footware can affect Achilles tendon loading in dorsiflexion. High tops are more protective but newer players preferring low tops… 3. The new style of the modern NBA with swing players. Centers defending guards and vice versa. The game has more movement now and injury risk… 4. Playing through injury? Playing through calf soreness and calf strain (KD and Tatum) may significantly increase risk of full tear. 5. Excess traction and court surfaces. The advancement in both basketball shoe and court surface technology, while enhancing athletic performance by preventing slips and optimizing force transfer, has concurrently created an environment for injury…. At the end of the season some big stars went down with Achilles tears… Lilliard, Tatum, Haliburton. Will this trend continue?
