On February 21, 1952, a procession demanding Bengali as the state language was met with tear gas and gunfire.
Rafiq, Salam, Barkat, Awal, Shafiur and many others were martyred. The 'Central Shaheed Minar' is a symbol of respect and honor for their great sacrifice.
