i'm afraid of commitment. i think it's a fear that's a subset of fomo, and a fear that's a consequence of the rise of social media. it's the fear of becoming out-of-touch, disrespectful, and an "unc." it's the fear that i'm committing to something wrong. but i think that's partly what differentiates uncs. they've gone through commitment, a daunting process where you "lock in" where you place your attention. social media is a place where i feel safe, feel informed, and feel like what's going on in the world. the attention that i give to social media makes me feel like i'm a part of society, and if i leave it, i'm afraid that i won't know what the world is like.

logic can't justify itself without circularity, analogous to the limits defined by gödel's incompleteness thms. philosophical daoism recognizes what preceeds and exceeds logical articulation as "the dao." the character 道 (dào) is most often combined with other characters to mean path or road, e.g., 人行道 means sidewalk. i'm inclined to guess vitalik coined the acronym DAO inspired by daoism, to emphasize the governance as a path; something that's bottum-up, emergent, and permeating rather than imposed
