In this case, I don't think it could have been.

In my extremely-tangentially related work in crypto onboarding for social causes, these things are only useful when planned and executed within a known scope and according to a sound framework. So sure, an organized political party, or an agile grassroots org, or a crypto-native coordi-nation can probably approach adoption with a good chance of success... But not a spontaneous revolution/insurrection.

Although the bigger barrier isn't UX in my opinion. It's coming to consensus on (at least) the basic choices needed to actually configure and co-govern the infrastructure in the first place. That's not particularly common knowledge and very difficult to facilitate.

I do wonder though... especially considering the fact they just used Discord for this election 

are these crypto voting platforms legitimately the type of 10x improvement it would take to get people to switch from more seamless options like Discord voting? how would this election have been improved by using crypto tools?

The intended use case is to abstract Vocdoni away behind a bespoke UI which uses whatever credentials the base is most familiar with. IIRC that's how they're using it in major party elections and other RW use cases.
