Truth is that drug developers have to run expensive studies, pay for expensive manufacturing, and large regulatory, medical, and technical staff for years for many drugs. Problem is that if US isnโt price gouged, companies do not have a market large enough to be profitable.

Their โRD budgetโ goes for advertisements and fancy promos. They always use RD to justify these expenses and its just plain false. Plenty of citations for this. I work in healthcare and at large academic research hospitals.

It costs close to $100k/patient for an oncology clinical trial, 2-300 for phase 2, 1-2000 for phase 3, ongoing phase 4, market access studies. Easy to reach $500M on just the clinical R&D, doesnโt include preclinical, marketing, staff salaries, and any acquisition/licensing costs
