Crypto really is low status and trashy. It has afforded me a lot of opportunity but it’s also embarrassing and not something I am excited to tell people about

"Please be patient I'm in crypto" hat feels unironically appropriate

I’ve been patient tbh Every year the industry deploys some thot leader to try and say it’s more than extraction and that gives people the moral cover to go launch the nth iteration of shitters What’s worse is that everyone involved is a sheeple to the max No new ideas No creativity Just another token launcher to round trip our wealth on cause that guy over there did it and is raking it in Retardio

I have been here long enough to accept that I'll probably disappear once I make my lucrative sum of money with little to no work. I feel like we all want to extract but the ones who "make it" and can quit but don't just want to extract even more or go broke trying 🤑

It’s an impossible scenario because ok it’s just financial rails You can use them for productive means But No one, and I mean no one, is interested in that beyond a small handful of regens who are decried as snobs, called boomer, or out of touch

hard truths: 1. crypto isn’t growing, in fact it’s more cringe than ever because of the new admin embracing it / $trump 2. it’s not realistic to generate a full-time sustainable income on farcaster, $degen and $higher were anomaly wealth events 3. majority of the world doesn’t think in terms of markets 24/7

Ur right It’s so disgusting 🤢 When I bought my first crypto it had rebellious prestige For cypherpunks and insiders Now it’s unserious and ugly

Feature not a bug Most powerful financial technology ever created — would be a real shame if incumbents could coopt it Good thing they won’t touch it

The incumbents honestly are the better players sorry not sorry No one here myself included is all that great Crypto afaik uses a revolutionary posture to take all the worst parts of the incumbent culture and KEEP those while being worse in every other way and hoping you don’t notice because you’re distracted by ideals no one lives up to Ie why is Coinbase so shitty at providing reasonable customer support while allowing company insiders to snipe every single new token listing of the year? Sure tradfi insider trades too but at least they give me a fucking person on the phone when I have a problem with my scraps

Have you ever taken a payday loan? Or had to remit money to another country? Or held physical dollars to hedge against inflation? I think incumbents are good for you because you’re in the top 10% in the world when it comes to financial access

These are the stories ALWAYS trotted out to justify the massive mountain of trash this industry is responsible for otherwise While not wrong, crypto hides a ton of subpar trashy shit behind the moral gloss of financial access And it’s Telling the chief consumer is a desperate one
1
androidsixteen avatar
I think you're moving the goalposts I agree with you that it's been 90% scams, 5% infra buildout, and 5% improvement to dollar access in the 3rd world Point is that the 90% scams acts a inscrutability shield against the entrenched players -- it's a far greater existential risk that the tech gets eaten and the circumstances stay the same re: financial access. Much better to chew a lot of glass for 20-30-40 years and tolerate the scammers, opportunists, etc. in the hope that something changes

How would you feel if it was a regulated gambling industry? Or working for the protocol layer?
1
1
keccers avatar
If it was regulated gambling then it would at least be calling a spade a spade. But gambling is trashy too Protocol layer … meh. Sounds cool and often is but only theoretically. all you are doing is building a better foundation for the trashy
1

grunt.eth avatar
But in the protocol layer- you have an excuse to not make money! And there is some cool research/harder software development It’s pretty cool to be the guy responsible for the bedrock Vegas sits on, even if it’s Vegas?
1
keccers avatar
Just better uses of everyone’s time than to build a better home for wealth extraction

I think there’s some PvE here It’s not the current meta But it’s in the genes 🧬 Hodl and (3,3) Bitcoin was positive sum, with extractors sure. But you stick around long enough…

Scrolling through the replies, I’m quite surprised how many people can relate to this! Also, seems like Trump has influenced how Americans feel about crypto now. But I thought a crypto-friendly US government was what the industry always wanted.
1
keccers avatar
It’s TOO friendly Nastya 😂 It took Trump all of 2 minutes to get there too. Like I think the ink was barely dry on the ballots before $TRUMP and $MELANIA were launched 😂 😂

Could be... I'm ashamed to admit it, but when I saw Eric's (I guess) post everywhere about buying ETH, I actually bought some. Then it dropped like 50%

I created $CRITTER yeah it’s a token but I don’t call it a memecoin it’s more a story telling coin. I wanted to create something different than anything anyone has seen here before. A project with stories and wholesome feel good vibes. Irl utility. Coloring books and plushies. Learning different cultures making art and travel accessible for people like me. Visually impaired social anxiety but who still want to see the world. Cut out the negativity and focus on wholesome
1
keccers avatar
How do you use $CRITTER in your own ecosystem? Do you make any effort to maintain a minimum value of the token?
1

Blind Chronicles avatar
Well it’s almost a month old now, still in the community building stage. Showing people the vision of it. I earn from buy and sells so I stack supply from that to hold for giveaways and community projects. Coloring contest prizes! People who hold $CRITTER become part of the story they can vote on places we can visit different cultures to explore. Come up with new characters that the Geo Critters may meet. Critter helps fund the dream. Merch, plushies, kids books. Making art and travel accessible for people like me. Disabilities people who can’t afford to travel or can’t because of anxiety or depression. We explore the world together sharing kindness and wholesome pawsitive reinforcement.

At least when Trump completely dissolves the integrity of legacy financial systems this one will have some defense thanks to decentralization.

I have seen people hypothesizing TIPS are no longer a safe buy because they do not trust the admin to honestly report inflation AT ALL 🤢 like just straight up say it’s 0 and in turn render the TIPS useless

Does not surprise me. I’ve actually never been more into crypto for the “tech” than since Trump took over. Black Swan events have never felt so palpable.
Chaotic Neutral avatar
Yeah it’s a really toxic brand in general. It’s like the tech equivalent of being a flat earther

Such a good way to put it

It’s embarrassing because it’s so trashy idk Even when it’s not explicitly a scam or a rug pull it’s just got a veneer of ick

I agree, but also, you'll agree that crypto has not always been like this. I mean, let's take a trip down the memory lane, back to 2016-17,18,19,20. From the ICO era, to the onset of DeFi etc. Before the era of Uniswap, dex launchpads/IDOs and the apparent existence of memecoins. Crypto has always been beautiful, what we believed to be a wealth redistribution platform. You know what happened? Evolution! crypto has evolved, not positively, but it has.
