I don't think I buy the idea that people saw the rich as aspiration figures basically ever. The best rich people have always been the ones that don't flaunt their wealth. The worst rich people have always been the ones that do.

Around the same time was the Zuckerberg effect. Zuck went from hero to villain in pretty rapid slide from 2010-2020. Gates, the model of philanthropy on Epstein Island and all the Epstein stuff. Amazon killing the malls. The potential role models were few and far, and now Enol’s slide.

You don't have to become like that just because you have money. Choices are made that lead to becoming that type of person. I suppose that's more difficult if it's all you've known your entire life.
