So if you live in a place that is more prone to serious weather events do you think it’s less likely that things like this would happen? Asking cause I am buying a house on top of a flood plain that’s survived six decades of hurricanes in North Carolina. But terrified it won’t survive the next decade.

I get it. My parents just moved to a house even closer to the water on Long Island. A lot depends on the rate of sea level rise in the years to come. Looks like I would be okay until a 5M rise. I am inland a bit so storm surge is not an issue but I am right above a creek that floods with heavy rain.

Yeah it’s the same deal with my parents’ new place

Yeah we had a crawl space guy come in and he thinks the drains might actually bring water up instead of the opposite so it's more about trying to funnel water away from the house.

We have an engineer who deals specifically with flooding and erosion caused by water coming tomorrow so hopefully he can give us the all clear
