In this morning's Heatmap News AM:
1. The Energy Department just gave Southern Company a $26 billion — with a B — loan package to fund uprates and license extensions of six nuclear reactors, construct a bunch of new gas plants, and build out transmission in Alabama and Georgia.
2. A new analysis by the Center for Public Enterprise's Advait Arun, Chirag Lala, and Yakov Feygin found that the way the investment tax credits are structured for nuclear makes them unhelpful with upfront construction costs.
3. Trump's pick to lead the Bureau of Land Management waffles on selling off public lands.
4. Amazon, Google, xAI, OpenAI, Meta, Microsoft, and Oracle are poised to sign Trump's pledge next month to bring-their-own-generation for data centers.
5. SHINE Technologies just raised $240 million, as I reported exclusively.
PLUS: Vineyard Wind is almost done.
