The Two Friends and the Stone Two childhood friends were walking through a dusty road. One of them suddenly slapped the other during an argument. Hurt, but without saying anything, the one who was slapped bent down and wrote in the sand: “Today my best friend slapped me.” They kept walking until they reached a river. While bathing, the same friend who slapped earlier started drowning. The other rushed and saved him. This time, instead of writing in the sand, he carved into a stone: “Today my best friend saved my life.” The surprised friend asked, “Why did you write in the sand when I hurt you, and on stone when I helped you?” Smiling, he replied: “When someone hurts us, we should write it in sand where winds of forgiveness can erase it. But when someone does something good, we should engrave it in stone, where no wind can ever take it away.” Lesson: Don’t hold on to hurts, but treasure kindness forever.
