So there i was, standing in the middle of a crosswalk at midnight, no cars coming, just the hum of a streetlight above me. I had no idea which way to go. My phone was dead, my mind even more so. And then this van pulls up — guy with a beard and a dog in the passenger seat — and he just says, “you look like you’re winning the game of lost.” I didn’t even realize how close he was to the truth. He gave me a ride, some snacks, and disappeared before I could ask his name. Not sure if he was real or some kind of late-night hallucination. But if you're out there, whoever you were, thank you. You helped me find my way when i didn’t even know where i was.
