It depends. There are several types of NFTs and also the reasons to get them. I'll name just some of them:
- utility NFTs, by holding you are getting access to a service, or to the original tokens (exchanged in DEFI)
- collectibles, some of them might come with utility some of them might not - they usually represents something and could be very valuable / expensive over the time
- art, by getting them you are expressing your support to the creator - be it artist / community / whoever
- gaming items, which helps you to improve your gameplay
- music, domains, and many more
