I’d like to do my best to read books that I feel are still going to be relevant in 100 years, in a 1000 years

This does not mean I won’t read anything that’ll be obsolete in a few years, or even months, I will definitely do that

Just curious about what ideas are going to last the test of time, whether through resonating with us, as we evolve over time, or just by sheer luck (like how Plato & Aristotle survived by chance)

The Long Now had a similar goal to collect information that would be valuable 10,000 years from now. The Interval is filled with books they think fit that category along with other things. There's meetups too.

When I talked about not living forever, I meant: if I had all the time in world, then yes, I would read all the timeless books around me (and further away).
But then, my question: how do you pick? Specially contemporary ones. I personally have no idea what will last. Still I have a better chance predicting what won't.

I think it’s less about I want to live forever, but more that just these are the books that feel relevant to me at the moment, it may change over time too, no?

Also, by all means - I’m also interested in books that aren’t going to last too, it doesn’t preclude me reading books that don’t fit this category

Eventhough I don't feel that need (as there is high chances I won't live forever, i'm just happy with books that are relevant to me... At the moment I'm reading them, also pretty sure  that none of my favourite books will pass the test of, say, the century), I'm interested in your picking.

I feel the same way. Whenever I'm reading a book that is too focused on current (or past) events this thought is nagging at me the whole time. Not stopping me from enjoying it, but it's something I notice for sure

Just optimistically aim for 1 year. Within 10 years that sight line will be impossible.

You shall start with Bible and Quran. They are here in earth more then thousand years and it seems they will be here more.
