Fitting in is so deeply ingrained in our behavior, that choosing to be yourself is often initially experienced/reflected as threatening and alienating.

this fits right into something i was thinking today that my favorite version of myself was when I was 14. and I realized… everything I do now is just an attempt to feel like him again. the thing about him was he hadn’t learned how not to be himself yet.
