Is there a privacy tech community here? I’m trying to get myself to post more on Farcaster because ideologically I’m aligned with the principle of decentralized social but: 1) I have no followers here 2) it feels like most cypherpunks are ironically on X and not here (am I wrong?)

Went on threadguy’s stream this week and answered the question everyone is wondering: “why Zcash now?” notthreadguy: "It feels like the privacy scene has felt like a ghost town until right now. Why is everyone freaking out about Zcash right now?" Me: "Let me ask you this—do you think that when you look at geopolitical trends and events, do you think we are moving towards a world that is more free or more authoritarian?”

Here's something you probably won't see many people talking about on Farcaster (yet): Zcash's ($ZEC) price has outperformed most bluechip tokens on the market—up 217% YTD—and the amount of shielded volume moving into the Orchard Pool looks like a hockey stick. Simply put, the market is waking up to the reality that for money to serve as a medium of exchange it needs to be FUNGIBLE, which most crypto tokens are not. Also, it has a hard-capped supply at 21M tokens. The issuance gets cut in half every 4 years. In other words, there is less of it getting emitted, not more. There is no little committee of 3 people in a Telegram group that can surprise change the monetary policy at their discretion through "governance." There are no cliffs or unlocks. It just is what it is. It has the potential to serve as both a medium of exchange, and a store of value. Crypto as it was intended. Credit to ZecHub for the dashboard below.

This is me. I like to go on stages and rant about how your data should belong to you, not to governments or corporations. That’s one of the reasons I’m starting on my farcaster journey with @warpcast.

most people eventually figure it out on their own, but no amount of money feels as good as working on something you actually believe in

1/ things that excite me in crypto today: -stablecoins banking the unbanked in the developing world and helping them hedge against their own countries' fiat monetary debasement, while also simplifying the multi-trillion dollar remittance market -unstoppable private internet money (ZEC) becoming a liquidity blackhole -defi simplifying complex financial concepts into 1-click deposits for the layman who needs to earn some yield on his stack (@vitalik.eth's "Low Risk DeFi") -crypto rails allowing for people to take back control of (and monetize) their own data -privacy-enhancing technologies creating a safer internet for everyone by being able to prove a specific thing without having to show all of your cards to the entire world in the process -onchain commerce removing the extractive middlemen so that small businesses can work harder for the right reasons and not for the wrong ones

"oh nobody really cares about what companies do with their data" this is categorically false. more and more people are a) learning how companies have been collecting their data and b) what they've been doing with it. they're rightfully angry. and the backlash is only just starting. the time to bring the popcorn out is when this awareness breaks into the mainstream public consciousness. bet on technology that is focused on empowering the individual, not technology that is focused on extracting.
