When I was reading them the orders of the non-Foundation novels weren't completely clear, and maybe there was info about it on early websites/mesasage boards but I didn't have internet at home. So I had this fun experience of reading them semi-randomly. My dad had a couple of them on the bookshelf, and my family moved so I got to check out a few different libraries and find different ones. So I was able to put together the timeline of them all over time, which made it seem even more incredible than if I had read them in a more logical order.

In a Starbucks in 2025 - the baristas are wearing green aprons, refills are free, and The Postal Service is playing on the speakers. There's a couple of guys with printed out research papers and a go board in the corner. We're so back.

When I was a kid, I read a ton of Asimov and always saw Pebble in the Sky referenced but could never find a copy - I think it was out of print at the time, and my library didn't have it. When I went to high school I found a copy in my school library that hadn't been checked out in decades and was so happy.

I'm increasingly convinced this is true. Standardizing as much as possible makes LLMs much more effective. The only doubt I have is that there's enough Bazel open source code that's trained on. I took out the red yeast and garlic supplement because I suspected it was causing my GI issues, and haven't had issues since stopping it. I usually make the protein with almond milk and muesli like overnight oats because I got sick of the blueberry nut mix flavor very quickly.

Speaking purely from public comments I've seen, there's a lot of talk about uncertainty with the overall economy, the advice that too high a valuation can make it impossible to raise again, and discussion of the valuations in hot verticals (ai) vs others. I wouldn't want to speak out of turn about private conversations I or others at my company have had with investors- I think we've gotten great advice and introductions so largely have dealt with forthcoming and honest investors who aren't pretending incentives are what they aren't.

standard is only standard because the VCs say so. everyone knows for the hottest deals, nonstandard terms become standard. Founders should put themselves and their companies first. Too many try to make friends with potential investors and the incentives just aren't set up for that to work out.

VCs benefit when founders think their company is earlier stage, lower valuation, higher risk, and lower upside than it actually is. Keep your feet on the ground and be hungry, but stay confident, shoot for the stars, and don't apologize for valuing yourself and what you've built.
