Heard Island is an uninhabited Australian island in the southern Indian Ocean. The island is covered in ice and has an active volcano, Big Ben. The island is extremely cold, has strong winds, and often snows. Penguins, seals, and various types of seabirds can be found on the island. Heard Island has been declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its environment is very sensitive, so strict rules are followed for protection. The general public cannot visit it. Only researchers and scientists with special permission can visit it for research. To get to the island, you have to take a ship, which is a long and risky journey.
