Walls decorated with gilded paintings, pointed roofs, carved balconies, red paper lanterns in the labyrinths of narrow streets and through passages, an openwork bridge, a pond with carp - this is what the Old City, a traditional district of Shanghai, looks like. The historical buildings have been poorly preserved. Some buildings are only an effective architectural stylization. The premises are occupied by shopping centers, markets with street food, souvenir stalls and museums. However, antiquities have also been preserved. For example, the restored Temple of the God-Master of the City Chenghuangmiao (Cheng Huang Miao).
