GM โ˜€๏ธ Years ago I hiked in the High Atlas Mountains, stopping off at the traditional berber villages on our way to climb Toubkal, the highest mountain in North Africa. It was the first time I had been outside of Europe and was an unforgettable experience. It was hot in the day and I had packed too much stuff (everything I needed for backpacking across Europe). The nighttime was freezing! At basecamp I put on every item of clothing and squeezed into my sleeping bag, only to realise I needed the toilet. When I opened the tent I was blown away, seeing more stars then the spaces between them. I insisted everyone else come outside to see. Then early the next day, we climbed the last stretch to admiring the Sahara stretched out endlessly from the view at the summit. The villages their are fascinating. Unpainted and clinging to the mountainsides, they blend with the red rock so only the geometric forms, windows and doors make them noticeable. I could fill the Settlements collection with places in Morocco!
