Lemon Bread!
The third in a series of old-fashioned recipes I found in my Mum's recipe tin. These are in fact a recipe from my babysitter, Norma, and not my Mum. 🥰
This is my top five favourite treat from childhood and the recipe didn't disappoint. The nostalgia coming from my taste buds rn is oh, so sweet! 😋
I'd say this bread is much like the texture of a pound cake, dense but soft. And the way the glaze crystalizes as it cools is a texture addition not to be missed.
They're a little messy at the glaze stage, it can be quite runny. I think the issue is that lemons today are twice the size they were in the 70s, so "the juice from one lemon" probably wasn't the 1/4 cup I used today, more like 1/8 cup. So I did adjust the modernized recipe below slightly to account for lemon size.
If you try them, the bake-along audio can be found in the quoted cast, with part two (the glaze) in a reply. Please share pics or thoughts, I'd love to know if you like it as much as I do! Just reply here. Enjoy!
