Main advantages (1/2): - Simplicity: no need of external consensus and escape hatch. L1 sequencing is 0 lines of code. - Liveness: without a centralized sequencer, a based rollup leverages the liveness of Ethereum. With L1 sequencing you have a rollup that is gonna live as long as Ethereum itself.

Main advantages (2/2): - Security: L1 sequencing leverages all the economic security of Ethereum without extra security assumptions. - Neutrality: Based sequencing is the most credible neutral.

The name "based" relates to the concept of based sequencing: essentially sequencing rights are given to L1 proposers - no centralized sequencer, no single point of failure.
