Base Network: A Scalable Ethereum Layer 2
Base is an Ethereum Layer 2 blockchain developed by Coinbase, built on Optimistic Rollup technology using the OP Stack. It is designed to improve Ethereum’s scalability while inheriting its security guarantees.
Base executes transactions off-chain and submits compressed transaction data to Ethereum for settlement. This approach significantly reduces gas fees and increases throughput compared to Ethereum mainnet.
Key Technical Features
Optimistic Rollups: Assumes transactions are valid by default, with fraud-proof mechanisms for dispute resolution.
EVM Compatibility: Supports Ethereum smart contracts without modification.
ETH Gas Model: Uses ETH for transaction fees; no native governance token.
OP Stack Integration: Part of the Optimism Superchain, enabling shared infrastructure and interoperability.
Security Inheritance: Final settlement and data availability are anchored to Ethereum.
