core theses for @ethxy /ethxy 2025: 1. gameplay is king. food's gotta be tasty first before worrying about restaurant decor. if the food is tasty, everything else will fall into place. if the food isn't tasty, it doesn't matter what else you do 2. founder-led marketing is s-tier marketing. creators in other consumer digital products (streamer / musician / youtuber / tiktoker) have a face. having a face is key to spreading into normie world 3. fancy, too clever token mechanisms are just obsfucating lack of token demand. token => emotion transaction is the proven mainstay in trad gaming 4. platform selection should be based on friction to new players (picking chains / wallet infra / social networks / web vs. native mobile / app platforms). counter-signal when platform offers heavy incentives 5. creating a fandom is the product. each new track for a musician is marketing for the movement. the new game is marketing to add new fans of @ethxy

now imagine leading productive meetings and trying to align everyone to produce a good (failing that, at least consistent) story. Harry Potter would not exist it is when maximum creative flexibility is bestowed on the tasteful few (if not one), that individual can actually create the parts that makes Harry Potter magical there is a time and place for a huge team which is once the 0 -> 1 creative vision is set. scaling out the book to publish internationally, shooting movies, making merchandise are all 1 -> 2 imo startups pre-pmf with >5 people are shooting themselves in the foot, not just with increased burn and management overhead but directly obstructing their own search for pmf

hot take: for a sufficiently innovative potential product, the tiniest teams are most likely to find the winning combination imagine being J.K. Rowling writing the first draft of Harry Potter and you have a fully staffed team. you have: - A "character director" who serves as the guardian of character consistency - A "dialog designer" who specializes in high quality dialog between characters - A "plot writer" who specializes in writing compelling subplots - A "paragrapher" who typesets paragraphs into pleasing and not too lengthy segments - A "chapter manager" who ensures chapters don't run too long and are appropriate in length - A "Harry Potter" manager who leads a team responsible for fleshing out his motivations, his decisions, his character arc - A "Hermione Granger" manager + team, ditto as Harry - A "Mopsus" manager + team, who was managing a key character who got cut. Leading to a difficult conversation, many tears and lowered morale
