What if the U.S. tax code was actually simple? Here is a thought experiment for a clean transparent and progressive federal income tax system No write offs. No loopholes No special breaks. Just three brackets. Proposed structure using gross income? 0 percent up to 60,000 for single or 125,000 for married About 17 percent from that point up to 1,000,000 About 28 percent above 1,000,000 Why those numbers? Because when you run the math using national income distribution and total federal income tax revenue those middle and top rates come out close to what is needed to raise about the same total revenue we collect today which is roughly 2.4 trillion a year What this does? Protects low and middle earners with no federal income tax under 60,000 or 125,000 Keeps the system progressive with higher earners paying a higher share Eliminates loopholes with no deductions or special carve outs Makes taxes understandable so you should not need an accountant to know what you owe You could explain the whole tax code on a napkin. This is not about left or right. It is about clarity fairness and transparency Would you support a system this simple? Also keeping corporate tax the same as now.
