Old School Respect or Out dated Thinking?βοΈπ€
Curious to hear some outside perspectives on this. π
My 16 year old daughter wants to go to prom with her boyfriend (heβs a senior). Iβm perfectly fine with her going, but I suggested that he should pick her upβ¦
Partly because it feels respectful, and partly because I see it as a small window into his character. π
πͺ© To me, moments like this matter:
πͺ Does he show up to the door?
π Is he polite and confident when meeting her parents?
π€ Does he offer a firm, respectful handshake?
π Does he make the effort to bring flowers?
π₯ Does he carry himself like a young man who takes pride in how he treats her?
Her mom thinks simply dropping her off is easier, but I canβt help feeling that this skips a very important social lesson about effort, courtesy, and respect. π«‘
Am I being old school hereβ¦ or is there still value in expecting these gestures?βοΈ π€·ββοΈ
