imo the root issue is all their algorithms are supervised (they label and tag things and give them scores and adjust) vs what everyone else has been doing for 10+ years which is unsupervised (the system learns the labels and rules) — the current approach 1. doesn’t scale 2. doesn’t work with other languages

if an app has an algo i kinda feel they should probably have a data engineer or two

i hope this isn’t the case but it just goes back to my main point: the opinions of the team should not be the opinions of the platform or algorithm, that’s not sustainable and it doesn’t appeal to all

I suspect it's because the Merkle team is hoping to get more content like this on the network and they even went so far as to onboard these specific users.  Which means they are probably engaging with every post they see from these users.

The Merkle team are likely some of the highest signal users in their algol...so this kind of stuff always goes to the top.

It got to the point where I actually muted these users because they kept showing up despite many attempts to "show less like this".

Sharing an amusing experience I had recently, in case it helps with UX improvement. I plan to delete this cast once the issue (raised by others too) gets acknowledged in some way.

I often see “User A” in my Home feed. I don’t follow them. Content isn’t spammy or offensive - just not my preference. I figured not interacting would signal disinterest to the algorithm, but "User A" shows up a lot.

The other day, their cast was the first one in my Home feed. I finally decided to tap “Show fewer like this” and refreshed the feed.

A different cast from this user showed up as the first one in my Home feed, again. I tapped "Shower fewer like this" again. Refreshed again.

Yet another cast from the same user was the first in my Home feed (third time in a row!). This time I gave up, accepted the algorithm's sense of humor, and decided to keep scrolling.

But this third cast was a very short video. The audio glitched and kept playing even as I scrolled. I switched to the Following tab, Trending tab, navigated to channels. The audio kept playing on a loop (agh).

So I ended up force-quitting the app. I still see casts from this user. I'm aware the other tool available is mute, but haven't used it yet.

Muting feels too blunt. I don’t want to avoid DCs from this individual. I just want my Home feed to closer resemble my preferences.

Two things would be very appreciated:

1) Clarification on how the current controls work (most immediate need)

2) A middle ground between "mute" and "show more of this" (not urgent for my experience but a nice to have)

This is not a judgment on any content here. I know my content is not everyone's cup of tea. I really wouldn’t want anyone stuck seeing it at the top of their feed after expressing repeatedly they don't want it.

I appreciate anyone reading this. Long live Farcaster.

I made some code changes this morning and it should be resolved. dm directly if you are seeing this issue on your timeline from now and onward.

Have noticed this exact thing with a few accounts recently. The algo has been a lot more top heavy recently
