DAY 3: Why Did Coinbase Build Base?
1. To Bring 1 Billion Users On-Chain 🌍 Coinbase’s mission is to create an open financial system. However, the Ethereum mainnet (Layer 1) is often too expensive and slow for daily use. Base was built to be the low-cost, secure, and developer-friendly "highway" needed to onboard the next billion users into the crypto economy.
2. The Bridge Between CeFi and DeFi 🌉 Coinbase has over 100 million verified users on their centralized exchange app. Base serves as the seamless bridge to move these users on-chain (DeFi) without leaving the Coinbase ecosystem. It makes using decentralized apps as easy as sending an email.
3. The Superchain Vision 🤝 Base is built on the OP Stack in collaboration with Optimism. Instead of building a "walled garden," Coinbase is betting on open-source technology. They aim to build a unified Superchain where different L2 networks can interact seamlessly.
