Sony’s Chief Financial Officer, Lin Tao, described artificial intelligence as a “powerful tool” for game development, emphasizing that the company aims to support the commercial use of generative AI as a means of enhancing creativity rather than replacing human talent.
His remarks came alongside Sony’s record-breaking third-quarter results, with operating profit climbing 22% year-over-year and the company raising its annual forecast to around 1.13 trillion yen.
Meanwhile, concerns within the gaming community persist - more than half of developers surveyed at the Game Developers Conference (GDC) said they view generative AI as a potential threat to the industry, underscoring the ongoing tension surrounding its rapid adoption.
