A few weeks ago, I packed my life into a medium-sized suitcase and a Patagonia backpack. Me and Anna have traveled like this before, but this time I thought to write about what it feels like.
When your surroundings change, you notice which parts of your life were defaults rather than choices.
Turn left from our apartment, and we're somewhere we've never been—in this case, the Atlantic coast of Morocco. Food and air taste different. Today I had a nous nous instead of espresso.
Travel makes us remember what we forget at home. To wake early for the morning light. To speak to strangers. To try the unfamiliar. To pay attention. The world is, once again, more interesting than the phone in our pocket.
Isn’t that how life should be?
