I've been thinking about building a chat app as a mini app, it's a big undertaking and I only want to do it if people seem excited about it.
Below are some thoughts I'd love feedback on:
Farcaster & Base messages are not synced. Chat app would solve this, however it cannot "load in" all your chat history because Merkle (Farcaster) does not expose this data on Snapchain and Base uses XMPT. This means all chats will be new but going forward the mini app if successful can be used as the go to chat app.
The chat app would have an "app store" of chat agents which can be added to a private chat, group chat or the entire chat app. If you are a dev, would you be interested in getting your agent integrated, think @bracky or @bankr.
If in 3-5 years time the world adopts agents and it becomes the way we read and write information instead of our traditional UI heavy apps then...
it would make sense for a new chat app to emerge, one that has infrastructure from day 1 to support agents and developers that are building agents.
This is a really hard problem as it's dealing with distribution, where most AI companies today deal with utility and single player experiences.
However given that it's a chat app and not necessarily a social network, if the value add with agents 10x's the experience over whatsapp, telegram, imessages & etc then it's a worthy endeavor.
What other features are important to you in a chat app, and is this something you can see yourself using in the future? By using I mean joining an alpha/beta group of users to give it a go.
Below are some features others have mentioned they'd like to see in a chat app alternative to Farcaster DCs/Base DMs:
- cross client compatibility
- better chat search
- better emoji,gif integrations
