The word “Jews” is pronounced in Hebrew as "Yehuda".
As a French speaker, I always wondered why the term became "les juifs"!
Historically, the letter I was used to represent both the "y" and "j" sounds, which explains many sound shifts we still see today like "Johann" and "John".
