In The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle: “Realize deeply that the present moment is all you ever have.” I checked my phone 47 times today. Scrolled. Compared. Worried. And then I read this. And paused. Right then. In the middle of my kitchen. I looked at my hands. The steam rising from my mug. The sound of rain on the roof. I realized: I’d missed today. Again. All I ever have is now. Not yesterday’s regrets. Not tomorrow’s anxieties. Just this breath. This cup. This second. So I drank my tea slowly. Felt the warmth. Smelled the chamomile. Lived it. One moment at a time. That’s the only practice that matters.

Many of us don’t realize how much emotional labor pets do for us. They’re our silent therapists, always ready to listen, cuddle, or distract us from worries. Watching fish swim can lower anxiety, walking dogs encourages physical activity, and simply being near a pet can reduce loneliness. Highlighting these everyday therapeutic moments isn’t just heartwarming; it’s powerful advocacy for pet companionship. They don’t just fill our homes—they fill our hearts, day after day.
