#Base is an Ethereum Layer-2 chain that Coinbase launched in 2023. The idea was to make the on chain economy global, with low fees, fast transactions, and the security of Ethereum. Initially, Jesse Pollak (@jessepollak) said there were "no plans for a native token" because the focus was on product building. Then, in 2025, things changed! At the BaseCamp event in September, Jesse announced that Base was "beginning to explore" launching a network token. This token will increase decentralization, incentivize builders, and supercharge the ecosystem. It's still in the early stages no timing, no design details, but the community is very excited! So far: Base TVL has reached billions. Millions of users, DeFi, memes, and the creator economy are all booming. The Base app has launched globally (140+ countries). The Solana bridge is live, increasing interoperability. In the future, we can expect governance, incentives, and further growth from the network token. Base's bio has also been updated.
