I had a great chat with @joanie yesterday at Noun Coffee about the significance of emerging culture in platforms like Farcaster. Personally, I think Farcaster should’ve leaned more heavily into Degen, Higher and Clanker in the early days. Each of these represented more than the value of their tokens. They marked important cultural moments in Farcaster’s emergent story. Clanker moreso as it quickly went beyond speculation to facilitating new culture markets being quickly and easily created. One of the reasons why I was personally excited about memecoins was their ability to create a market for cultural moments and have the market dictate their value in real time. Platforms like Polymarket have found early success, because they’ve provided a platform for anyone to participate in this speculative process. One thing I’d like to see built on Farcaster or The Base App is a more integrated experience for the creation and discovery of culture markets. Farcaster tried Clanker Spotlight but that still feels disconnected from the platform experience. In the meantime, I’ll keep doing my part in growing the culture scenius on here. Below is Dan’s cast I collected because I feel it’s an important moment in Farcaster culture. IMO it is severely undervalued at $110. The inevitable shift to culture markets has not been priced in.
