Seems like a lot of services are having outages all at once. Anyone know what’s going on? Checkout alll the red on downdetector.com

Man, what a contrast between GoogleIO and WWDC this year… All of Apples features thus far seem very meh. Basically a tax on anyone maintaining an existing application versus something that adds value to customers.

Some folks say only complex SaaS will survive now that anyone can build with LLMs. But most people know how to make coffee or grill a burger and still go to Starbucks or McDonald’s. It’s faster, more consistent, and they don’t have time to mess around. I could build my own Calendly with AI. But I don’t want to debug time zones or outages on a weekend. I’ll gladly pay for software that just works.

I don’t want to have to navigate 15 different half baked versions of calendly or debug edge cases in my calorie tracker. Theirs always gonna be a place for basic software that’s well designed, maintained and fairly priced.

I say this as someone who vibe-codes all sorts of scripts to help me debug customer issues or analyze data. The ability to do this 10x faster than before is amazing but it’s different from saying that software engineering as a profession is dead or SaaS is going away.

Disposable software isn’t new, tools like website builders, wedding registries, or Google Sheets for expense tracking have existed for years. What’s changed with LLMs is the speed and cost of designing, deploying, and iterating this type of software. This shift fundamentally changes user expectations and behaviors by altering the economics of software creation.

Lots of folks predict the end of SaaS because AI makes it easy to quickly vibe-code disposable todo lists or diet trackers. But how much throwaway software do you really want if you value your time? In an era flooded with AI-generated mediocrity, there’s huge value in software where details, edge cases, and security are thoughtfully handled—saving you time, money, and frustration.

Friday Demo: APX + Datadog catching missing database indexes! Found endpoint with 1-minute responses (39% in DB) & provided exact SQL fixes. Sometimes the biggest wins are hiding in plain sight. Try APX today, link below.

Unlike previous eras in my tech career, most of my gains in productivity and impact have not come from learning a new framework, platform or language (iOS, React, Typescript). But rather from learning new workflows and tool techniques (prompting, Cursor, etc).
