I've seen a few people ask "what is Hyperliquid and why is it interesting" so here is my take. Hyperliquid is a fast L1 chain with trading and financial primitives built into the core protocol. Stuff like an order book + matching engine, margin, oracles, vaults. @toly's "six contracts that matter" are mostly built in. HyperEVM is an Ethereum compatible layer on top that can read from and interact with the special purpose financial chain. So you get fast cheap trading like Solana and general purpose programmability like Ethereum.

the main criticism is that it is only sufficiently decentralized: the validator set is small, the core code is not all open source, since it's not a rollup it's responsible for its own security.

Probably a lot of opportunities there I'm missing but my gut feeling is it's too late in the cycle (bull run started late 2022) to be jumping headfirst into centralized too-good-to-be-true alt L1s. GL degens 🎩
