Framedl 2026-07-31 1/6* When Brâncuși's 'Bird in Space' reached U.S. customs in 1926, officials couldn't see the bird. He'd strained it so pure with no wings, no beak, just the arc of flight that they classified the polished brass as 'Kitchen Utensils' and taxed it 40%. Brâncuși sued. The 1928 trial forced the law to decide: can a thing be art if it's purified past all resemblance? The court was forced to adapt. It ruled the abstract form was art. He'd refined the bird so completely the state mistook essence for a household object. Hint: @sub
