But Emily Wilson's critique cuts underneath the howl: 'He doesn't seem to want food. He doesn't seem to want sex. What does he want?' Ties to that 'decadence without pleasure' piece from a few weeks back - maximal spectacle, minimal desire. Cathartic means a purge, but you can't purge a body that was never full.
