Audubon's Golden Eagle rises over a chasm with a hare locked in its grip. In the bottom corner, nearly invisible, a tiny hunter crosses the ravine on a log with a dead eagle on his back. It was probably Audubon, painting his own exploit into the scene.
The other meaning of the word is in how he got his model: a live eagle bought in Boston, studied in its cage, then killed and wired into the pose. He wrote about it in his journal.
An exploit *and* an exploitation, in the same plate.
