Frances Glessner Lee built dollhouse-scale crime scenes in the 1940s, called the 'Nutshell Studies of Unexplained Death'. In the red bedroom, the deceased is Marie Jones, a prostitute. The witness, Mrs. Shirley Flanagan, landlord, said: “That morning, I passed the open door of Marie's room and called out ‘hello.’ She didn't answer, so I looked in and found room as you see it."
Frances, a pioneer on forensic science, made them because investigators kept destroying evidence, and taught them to read a room instead. Police still train on them.
Everything in these diminutive rooms is amiss, precisely.
