Minoan, c.1480 BCE, carved from hippo tusk with gold and rock crystal. One of the most refined human figures of the Bronze Age, and found deliberately smashed and burned, likely by iconoclasts. The altruism of the votive image, the violence of its unmaking. Beauty rarely survives clean.
