Data availability (DA) layers like Celestia provide scalable, modular infrastructure by separating execution from consensus. Their dominance depends on adoption by rollups and applications seeking cheaper, more efficient data storage. The challenge is competition from Ethereum’s native DA solutions, which benefit from entrenched trust and liquidity. Modular DA layers can dominate if they offer cost advantages and seamless developer tooling. However, achieving dominance requires overcoming the network effects of Ethereum’s settlement layer.
