Rumi Darwaza, built in 1784 by Nawab Asaf-ud-Daula, is one of Lucknow’s most iconic monuments. Standing 60 feet tall, it reflects a blend of Indo-Islamic and Ottoman architectural styles, inspired by the gateways of Istanbul. Constructed during a severe famine, it provided employment to thousands. Earlier, a lantern at its top lit the grand arch, and fountains enhanced its beauty. Situated between Bara and Chhota Imambara, it served as a ceremonial entrance to the city. Today, it remains a proud symbol of Awadh’s artistic legacy and cultural heritage.
