A selection of Persian dress ornaments from the Achaemenian Empire (6th-5th Century BC) whose rulers favoured images of roaring or snarling lions. I see these sorts of appliques as a form of metal brocade, a way to adorn a robe with a touch of gold. The Brooklyn Museum
