Why do so many young able bodied Canadians living in the city waste their money on snowblowers for tiny little city laneways when shoveling or using a snow scoop shovel seems to be faster at doing the same job? For the same reason that they don’t dig graves by hand anymore. After a major snowfall even a small driveway or laneway (even a sidewalk) may represent several graves worth of material. Shovelling snow is hard backbreaking work that may need to be repeated two or three times to remove additional snow that will be pushed in during road and sidewalk clearing. Anyone with more than a very short path to their door is looking at hours of work. After multiple snowfalls the snow banks beside any cleared space get higher and higher making the required distance to lift new snow, before it can be thrown sideways, higher and higher as well.
