I know competition is good, but it really feels like there are far too many new alt L1s and L2s. Bridging funds just to take advantage of the hot new thing leaves my funds fragmented when in reality, dapps are offering the same money markets, dexes, etc as Ethereum. I think for the average consumer, this landscape is far too complicated when you have to explain bridging, gas, tokens, etc. People need to be able to just hit a button and send funds, deposit into savings, or take a loan. I know work is being done to solve this problem on the Ethereum side, but these VC chains still think they can grab a chunk of Ethereum's market share having only 200 validators (not sufficiently decentralized or credibly neutral) and making users their exit liquidity. I don't see ETH or BTC being displaced unless a new chain both solves an important technological problem while also adhering to the principles which make ETH and BTC so attractive to use in the first place.
