Yesterday, I attended "Web3x3" in Istanbul, a basketball tournament featuring 16 teams formed of Web3 companies.
I didn’t have a team myself, but luckily, there were side activities like rowing.
The event stood out for two key reasons:
1️⃣ It was easy to observe that It sparked a genuine sense of team spirit and competition. Something the Web3 ecosystem often lacks. Sports serve as a reminder of what strong communities are built upon.
2️⃣ It broke the mold of typical networking events.
We’re all familiar with the formula: grab a coffee, greet the same faces, half-listen to a speaker, and quietly leave.
Instead, this one brought people together through activity and competition, not around it. The sport created the connection.
Leveraging sports in community-building isn’t just refreshing, it’s effective.
I'm sure it was way more effective for the players, and I'm just a side beneficiary. It will stick in their brain forever.
More events like this, please. 🚣 0 reply
