been off farcaster for a while — work got completely out of hand. but something happened in june that i've been wanting to share
spotted two abandoned kittens in my yard on the way home. couldn't just walk past — i'm a huge cat person. went inside, grabbed food and water, put on gloves and went back. they looked about 6-8 weeks old
called my mom on the spot — she'd mentioned wanting a kitten and said yes immediately. called a friend for the second one. homes sorted in 20 minutes. felt pretty good about myself ngl
then i picked them up and realized something was wrong. both had discharge coming from their eyes, one of them wasn't moving at all. took them straight to the nearest vet, waited about an hour, and got the diagnosis — feline rhinotracheitis. serious respiratory infection, full treatment plan, strict quarantine required
problem: i live with my girlfriend and we already have a 1.5 year old cat at home. couldn't bring them inside
so we set up in the garage. two weeks, three times a day — before work, lunch break, after work — eye drops, food, playtime so they wouldn't get lonely. it was exhausting but these two were absolute characters from day one. played like crazy, ate insane amounts of food, their little bellies got rounder every day lol
somewhere in those two weeks i also realized i couldn't give them to different people. they were never apart. not once
