.. Revenge is not justice .. "Parastou Forouhar" is an Iranian writer, artist, and human rights activist, and one of the opponents of Iran’s oppressive regime. Her parents, Dariush and Parvaneh Forouhar, were both politicians and civil rights activists during the early days of the Iranian Revolution. They were murdered in their own home by Iran’s Ministry of Intelligence —a case that later became known as the "Chain Murders of Iran," a series of killings targeting intellectuals and artists who opposed the government. After her parents' murder, Parastou and her younger brother were forced to flee to Germany, where she still lives today. She’s now one of the most well-known Iranian human rights activists. During the recent Iran-Israel war, she protested the German government’s support for Israel’s attack on Iran and even filed a complaint. She said that supporting war without even mentioning the protection of civilians is a betrayal of the Iranian people, who’ve already suffered for years under their own oppressive regime. Despite all the cruelty the Iranian regime has inflicted on her and her family, she wrote: "Revenge is not justice. We must avoid violence."

One of the things people experience every day under the bullying of the Iranian regime is lying and bootlicking. For example, right now on Iran's national radio and TV, which is controlled by the regime, they claim they've "destroyed Israel" and nothing's left of it! They've "defeated America," and the Americans couldn’t do a thing! If anyone dares to speak against these fake narratives and point out the regime's flaws, they’ll be gifted with a fabricated case and thrown in prison! In Iran, the judiciary isn’t independent either—it’s just another tool of the regime’s repression. To understand how bad these fake legal cases against civil activists can get, just look at this: a few days ago, the regime passed a law saying anyone accused of espionage will be executed. Now, who gets labeled as a spy? The regime’s opponents inside the country!

After this, I wanna write about the hardships people in Iran go through as a society ruled by a totalitarian, oppressive regime. I wanna do this so maybe my friends in Europe and America understand what they’re talking about when they discuss the people here. For example, you should know that in Iran, Instagram, Twitter, Telegram, and YouTube are all blocked, and one of our monthly expenses is paying for VPN subscriptions! And what’s worse? If you post political content on these apps, it can land you in court or even prison!

After 12 days of war, there’s a ceasefire, the internet’s doing better, but the only thing that’s gotten worse is the life of us regular folks! We ordinary people feel like we’re forced to keep living and breathing with no hope left! Like Anna Akhmatova said: I’ve got a lot to do today; I need to kill off all my memories, Turn my soul to stone, And learn how to live again.

Iranians have been without proper internet for over 6 days now. The government completely shut it down for the first 3 days, and these past few days, it's been super slow. TV in Iran is controlled by the regime, and all the news they show is fake and incomplete (they only broadcast lies about the destruction of Israel and America). They're already getting ready—once the war is over—to crack down on government opponents under the fake excuse of 'spying for Israel'! I really hope the ceasefire news is true and both sides agree to it. The worst part for the Iranian people is that right now, during the war, things are scary for them, and after the war, it’s gonna be even scarier!
