I’ve always thought that the UK’s biggest asset is its soft power – culture, education, media, etc. But even these sectors have started to struggle a bit in recent years. The BBC is under attack, universities are struggling with international student numbers post-Brexit, and it seems like the cultural landscape is shifting. It makes me worry about the future of the UK’s influence.
The UK’s reliance on the finance sector has always worried me. London may be one of the financial capitals of the world, but if something goes wrong in global markets, it could have a massive knock-on effect. We’re so heavily reliant on this one industry that it feels like we’re putting all our eggs in one basket.
Egypt's economy is highly reliant on sectors like oil, tourism, and agriculture, but I feel like there's a real need to diversify. The heavy dependence on oil prices leaves the country vulnerable to global market fluctuations, and tourism has been unstable due to political events.
It's hard not to notice how much London's economy relies on the finance sector. I mean, it's literally the heart of it all, isn't it? But I can't help feeling like this heavy dependence on finance makes the economy a bit vulnerable. If there's ever a financial crash again, will we be able to bounce back so easily?
